Description

Looking for some Presidents Day themed literacy & math centers for your Kindergarten classroom? This product offers your students practice with a variety of grade-level literacy and math skills! Students work on the literacy skills of phonics, word analysis, decoding and, sight words. They will work on the math skills of counting, addition, subtraction, ten frames & missing numbers all in this Presidents Day themed resource.

Resource Prep: Print, laminate and cut all game cards as needed. If the game has black & white Masters they can be copied on regular copy paper. Directions are located on each game card set. Note: You can separate cards by student skill level or by what skills you are working on at the time.

Literacy Centers:

Presidents Day Initial Sound Capital & Lowercase Match Games: Matching Game: Children match the pictures with the beginning sound capital & lowercase letter. Memory Game: Either use both letter cards or one letter card and the sound cards. Children can play this by placing the cards face down in rows. They take turns turning two cards over to see if the letter and sound match. If it does, they keep both cards, if not they turn the cards back over and the next child has a turn. The person who has the most matches wins the game. Challenge: Memory game using all three cards in the set to find and match. Letter & Sound Mat: Children can use these mats to help organize their letters and sound cards. A good resource for students who are just learning the letters and sounds or for those students who need visual aids. Picture List: List of pictures included in the resource.

Presidents Day Beginning Sound Clip Game: Children look at the picture on the card and decide what sound that picture begins with. Children place a paper clip or clothespin to the correct letter that makes that same beginning sound as the picture. Students can write the word on paper or whiteboard or use one of the 10 worksheets to go with this activity.

Presidents Day Build Word Game: After the game, cards are cut apart and mixed up, children take a picture card and build the word with the letter sounds to make the word. Children must have one set of cards to build the word. Build a Word mat and worksheet are also included.

Presidents Day Sight Word Game(s): Word Game: Children place the cards face down and take turns drawing a card. If students can read the word, they keep it, if they cannot they must put it back. If they draw a Direction Card, follow its directions. They must read all their cards, the person who has the most cards wins. Memory Game: Make two sets of the word cards and children place the cards face down in rows. They take turns turning two cards over to see if they have matched the same words. If it does, they keep both cards, if not they turn the cards back over and the next child has a turn. The person who has the most matches wins the game.

Presidents Day Short Vowel Sounds Roll It! Read It! Words & Sentences: Two types of game cards with short vowel sound words and sentences. Each game card of words and sentences has each of the five vowel sounds. There are10 game cards in total. Students roll one dice and read the words or sentences in the row they have rolled.

Math Centers:

Presidents Day Number & Number Word Match Game: Children place the number counters to match the number word or numeral on the number card.

Presidents Day Roll & Cover Games : (2 different games): One Dice Roll: Roll one die and count your dots. Cover the number of dots you rolled with your marker. Two players will need to use two different colors. Covering the most numbers wins! Two Dice Roll: Roll two dice and count your dots. Cover the number of dots you rolled with your marker. Two players will need to use two different colors. Covering the most numbers wins!

Presidents Day Addition & Subtraction Facts Clip Game (0-10): Children read the addition or subtraction number sentence and find the answer to the sentence. Children place a paper clip or clothespin to the correct answer of the number sentence. You can separate the game cards in sets from 0-5 and sets from 6-10. Note: Put a little sticker on the back of the card in the correct answer space so students can self-correct their answers.

Presidents Day Ten Frame Roll and Cover: The student chooses a side of the game card to play and who will roll first. Roll one dice and count your dots. Place that many counters on your ten frames. Continue taking turns rolling and placing your counters. The first person who covers both their ten frames wins!

Presidents Day Missing Number Clip Game: Children place a paper clip or clothespin to the correct answer of what numeral is missing in the series of three numbers. Note: Put a little sticker on the back of the card in the correct answer space so students can easily self-correct.
