How are the Units Covered?

Each unit will offer two components to help make the math units

meaningful and engaging for whole group, small group or individual lessons. The Kindergarten Math Units can be a supplemental resource for current math curriculum, or it can be used as a whole math curriculum. The curriculum is designed to give the teacher flexibility and freedom to rearrange the units to fit the needs of his/her students. Since there are so many practice pages and centers in each unit, the teacher can use many of the pages as a spiral review as the year progresses.

Component Number 1

***NO PREP Practice Pages- We all know that kids needs lots of practice to master math concepts and make them concrete. Each Kindergarten Math Unit will have a variety of fun NO PREP practice/worksheet pages for students to practice, practice, practice! These NO PREP practice pages allow students to master math concepts through cutting and pasting, coloring, dice games and more!

***Math Centers- Each unit will have a variety of math centers/stations to help students practice and apply skills and strategies taught within the math unit. These math centers are purposeful and help to make each math concept more concrete. Math centers/stations increase student motivation by:

Math Centers Included in this Unit

*Center Number 1: Spin and Compose. Spin both spinners. Write each number in the correct box on the recording sheet. Write the number both spinners make. marks on the card. Clip a clothespin to the number that matches.

*Center Number 2: Mystery Puzzles: This center contains 4 mystery puzzles.  To complete the picture, find each puzzle piece that has the matching number to the set.

*Center Number 3:Spin and Cover: This game can be played with a partner or alone. Spin the spinner and cover a number that matches the spin.

*Center Number 4: Build it! If you do not have manipulatives, this center has printable base ten blocks. Use the base ten blocks to build the number on the mat. Record it on the recording sheet.

*Center Number 5: Ice Cream Number Bonds: Write the missing number and the number sentence. Record it on the recording sheet.

*Center Number 6: Roll and Write: (2 gameboards) Roll a die. Write the number in the correct space that matches the game board.

Center Number 7: Place Value Game-Two players each flip a card and cover a matching number on the game board. The first person to get 4 in a row wins.

*Center Number 8: Place Value Sorting-Sort the place value cards to the correct mat.

*Center Number 9: Number Puzzles-Match the number, base ten break-down, and base ten blocks to build the puzzle.

*Center Number 10: Decomposing Number Buses-Break up each number into tens and ones. Record the number sentence on the recording sheet.

*Center Number 11:Place Value 11-19-Count the popsicle sticks. Color the cubes to match. Break up the number into tens and ones and record on the recording sheet.

*Center Number 12: Place Value Popsicles-Match the popsicles (number words and base ten blocks) and record on the recording sheet.

*Center Number 13: Memory Mustard-Place all of the cards face-down. Players take turns flipping two cards at a time. If the cards match, the player gets to keep both cards. The player with the most cards wins.

*Center Number 14: Memory French Fries-Place all of the cards face-down. Players take turns flipping two cards at a time. If the cards match, the player gets to keep both cards. The player with the most cards wins.

*Center Number 15: Memory Burgers-Place all of the cards face-down. Players take turns flipping two cards at a time. If the cards match, the player gets to keep both cards. The player with the most cards wins.

*Center Number 16: Base Ten Count and Clip-Count the base ten objects and clip the correct answer.

*Center Number 17: Ten Frame Numbers-Trace the number. Build the number on the ten frames and complete the number sentence.

*Center Number 18: Watermelon Place Value Ten Frames-Color the correct number of squares on the ten frames. Record the value of each set in tens and ones on the recording sheet.

How to Teach the Units

The grade level standards for each practice page and center are clearly indicated on the Kindergarten Math Standard Sheet. There is no guessing as to what standard is being covered.
