Starting with pictures is a great way to dive into word problems. It's like a bridge between words and math symbols. Drawing can also make math less stressful. We're not jumping straight into solving an equation; we're just sketching to understand the problem.

We aim for students to visualize and draw to solve the math story problem. This transfers over to other word problems they will encounter. Additionally, cutting out pictures takes time. These prompts take just minutes to do each day.

Why don’t you print them on labels?
ANSWER:
Labels are expensive!!! And tedious to pass out to students. After a few days of practice, your students will be successful with putting these prompts into their own journals. Additionally, each month has way more prompts that you can use. Those math story prompts you don’t use can be recycled!
