Looking for a quick and simple one-page pre-assessment to use at the beginning of the year? This is a pre-assessment form designed for the incoming 1st Grade students to show you where all your students are for planning purposes. It covers a variety of math, phonics, and writing skills.
It covers these skills:
•Writing your name
•Letter Names
•Letter Sounds
•Numbers to 20
•Colors (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, pink, white, brown, black)
•Shapes (circle, square, rectangle, oval, triangle, hexagon, octagon, rhombus)
•Counts to ___
•Number of Sight Words
How I use it in my classroom:
During the first week of school, I pull my students aside to do one-on-one assessment and a little getting to know you. I ask them questions about themselves, then alternate those questions with these ones. It helps them feel comfortable with me and gives me important data to use when moving forward. I do not use this as a grade, but just as a tool to help my yearly planning.
For the numbers, colors, and shapes portion, I suggest that you use flashcards shuffled so it is out of order.
