Inspired by contemporary African-American artist Kehinde Wiley, this art project will help students create their own self-portraits similar to his style!

This lesson guides middle school or high school students through drawing and shading a realistic self-portrait, and then creating an amazing patterned background in the style of Kehinde Wiley. This lesson would likely take about 5 or 6 class periods to complete.
