Description

Travel ancient trade routes as you and your family journey across Asia and back again while learning about history, geography, animals, missionaries and the unreached, what life is like for Christians in Asia, and so much more. Explore more than forty countries through reading, drawing, notebooking, map work, creative writing, and more!

  • Have you ever wanted to incorporate missions into your history and geography studies but weren’t sure how?

  • Would you like to share with your kids about some of the ways God is moving in His Church in Asia in modern times?

  • Could you use a sensitive and age-appropriate way to share with your kids about Christian persecution in the world today in a way that won’t overwhelm them?

Journey Through Asia was designed to provide that for you and more.

Journey Through Asia introduces kids to 41 countries of Asia, more than 160 cities, 50 missionaries and notable Christians of the past and present, more than 40 people groups, and 60 animals of Asia. It is completely flexible and customizable. It is designed for kids ages 8-13 but can be used with younger or older children. It’s a great way to ignite curiosity, foster compassion, and unleash creativity while learning about Asia’s history and cultures.

The heart of the unit is the unit study text. This 200+ page unit includes all the information you’ll need to explore Asia by traveling some of the ancient trade routes such as the Silk Road, Spice Route, Incense Road, and more. It is designed to help kids learn about unreached people groups and persecuted Christians in a way that is gentle and age appropriate. It shows them ways they can pray for the people. Each of the sixty lessons includes:

  • The Land and Its History—an introduction to the history of the country and cities and their geography
  • The People—stories that each share various information related to the city and country; they may share about people groups who still need to hear the Gospel, missionaries, Christians from the region who have faced persecution, challenges the Christian community faces, and/or other related information along with ways kids can pray for the people today
  • Animal—a fun introduction to an Asian animal that lives in the region

Two versions of a map of the places explored are included. One is a single-page map that can be printed and referred to throughout the course. The second version is the same map formatted to print on four pages. It can then be assembled and displayed on a wall, posterboard, desk, or in whatever way works best to help kids see part of important global trade routes from history. Recommended reading materials and notes about selected sources for further study are also included.

The unit study is divided into sixty lessons that can be completed at a pace of two lessons per week for thirty weeks. However, the amount covered in one week is completely flexible, and it can be completed at whatever pace fits your students best.

The unit is in color, but the maps and pictures are formatted so that they will print and be completely usable in grayscale if desired. Also if desired, the text unit can be viewed on the computer rather than printed.

The unit also includes a glossary of definitions for 360 vocabulary words used throughout the lessons.

The Journey Through Asia Student Book includes a variety of assignments, templates, and activities for students you can choose from. It includes a Master Map for the student to add locations to as they complete each lesson (two versions of this map are also included—a single-page map and a four-page map). It also includes the following for each lesson:

  • Geography assignments based on the course
  • Geography Challenges that require the use of an atlas or Internet resource to complete
  • Reading Comprehension Questions (answer key included)
  • Notebook page for narration of the lesson
  • Activities such as a timeline, drawing activity, word puzzle, or a variety of other types of activities that can be completed without the use of additional resources
  • Bonus Activity that may require the use of the Internet or other books for additional information
  • Drawing activity for the animal studied
  • Animal Research Challenge that requires the use of the Internet or other books for additional information

Journey Through Asia also includes an optional Spelling & Vocabulary unit to reinforce words and places learned in the unit. It also includes a Prayer Journal where students can record prayer requests they’d like to pray about for each country.

Since the unit text, main geography assignment, reading comprehension questions, notebook page, activity, animal drawing activity, and spelling/vocabulary can be completed without the use of other resources, it can stand alone as a multi-disciplinary study.

An additional Journey Through Asia Project Book includes more than 100 projects students can choose from to take their adventure further. Projects suitable or adaptable for groups and co-op projects are also included. A few types of optional project-based learning opportunities include:

  • Creative writing assignments with writing prompts
  • Drawing activities
  • Research challenges
  • Dioramas
  • Art
  • Hands-on activities
  • Math challenges
  • Silk Road activities
  • And more

As students read the unit and complete various assignments and activities, they will also discover Silk Road trade goods exchanged on the trade routes between Europe and Asia such as gold, cedar, sandalwood, spices, bamboo, jade, ivory, turquoise, horses, diamonds, and much more.

Journey Through Asia includes:

  • Unit Study Core Text with Glossary
  • Student Book
  • Project Book
  • Spelling & Vocabulary
  • Prayer Journal
  • Checklist to track completion
  • Scope & Sequence for an overview of what is covered
  • Suggested Lesson Plan showing how to break the unit down to fill a full year

It’s a Bible and mission-based adventure along the ancient trade routes of Asia that will teach your students history, geography, and science while equipping them to pray for Christians in Asia and be amazed at some of what God is doing in the world today.

Come embark on a captivating multi-subject journey exploring Asia’s trade routes, geography, history, missionaries, unreached people groups, and wildlife while fostering compassion. This engaging and interactive unit study is perfect for ages 8-13 but can be customized for use with other ages.

Plus, there’s a quick start overview that shows you where to find just the parts your family needs!

Faith based.
