Description
This easy to read comprehension passage about jet streams explains:
- jet streams are strong bands of wind that move from west to east in the mid to upper troposphere (the layer of the atmosphere we live in)
- Earth has 4 major jet streams: 2 polar jet streams near the north and south pole and 2 subtropical jet streams closer to the equator
- jet streams are formed when warm air masses meet cold air masses due to the uneven heating of the Earth's surface by the sun
- jet streams help move weather systems around and meteorologists use them predict the weather
- jet streams can give airplanes a boost of speed when they travel from west to east
This resource includes a one page passage, 10 multiple choice reading comprehension questions, an answer key, and 2 self-scoring digital versions - EASEL and Google Forms. Color and black line illustrations are included to accommodate black and white printing.
