Jesus Calling the 12 Apostles Fact Matching Activity

When I teach about Jesus calling his 12 apostles, I like to teach the kids more than just the names of the 12 men. I want my kids to learn a little about each disciple, so they can begin to see them as real men and not just a simple list of names.

In this activity, the kids will read about Jesus calling his 12 apostles in scripture, and then review some facts about each apostle with the teacher (a list of facts is included). The students will then use that list to match each fact to the correct apostle. The students can glue the fact to the back of the apostle card and make “flash cards.” They can keep these cards in a bag in the car, or in the classroom to review periodically! This activity includes color and black/white images of the 12 apostles, so it can also be laminated and made into a center or review game!

BONUS: I also like to use these cards as part of a Seek & Find game. After the students create their apostle flash cards, I like to hide the 12 apostles around the room. Then I let each child take a turn holding the Jesus stick figure (included!), and they go and find an apostle. When they find an apostle they say, “Come and follow me!” The students take turns until each apostle is found! This is a fun game that gets the kids out of their seats and helps them review the facts they’ve learned.
