Description

STEM, Maker-Space and Science Centre activities! From towers and bridges to palaces and cathedrals, these cards contain 30 of the most well-known and celebrated man-made structures around the world. Get your students building today!

Included in this resource:

- 4 Cover pages if you wish to assemble the photos and/or accompanying sheets into a book

- 30 Full-coloured cards of famous structures around the world

- 10 Accompanying student sheets that can be used for planning, post-building reflections, or for research. Different versions are provided for differentiation and so you can choose what best fits the needs of your class.

How to use these cards in your classroom:

- Independent building tasks: Set these cards up in your science or construction centre along with a variety of building materials, and allow students to explore and construct at their own pace. Use the accompanying worksheets either for planning (prior to construction) or for recording (post-construction).

- STEM Challenges: Set students up in groups. Provide the same type and amount of materials to each group. Set the challenge. For example, the final structure must be X centimeters long, be able to stand for X amount of time, or be able to withstand the weight of X toy cars (this one would be good for bridges). For an extra challenge, provide a time limit.

- Research projects: As a class, group or individual, students can research a select number of structures. They can share the discovered information on an accompanying research sheet. I recommend either making a ringed booklet and printing one of the included research sheets on the back of each structure (double-sided), or having the image of the structure and the research sheet side by side in a binder.

How to prepare:

Print all coloured cards and laminate for durability. Carefully Select and print only the versions of the planning or research sheets you wish your students to use. There are many ways to display the cards depending on your needs and available classroom space. For instance, you can display the cards on a wall or classroom bulletin board, paste them on a foldable poster board, put them in a binder, create a book, or hole punch and affix them together with a binder ring. Make sure students have access to a wealth of building materials such as foam blocks, wooden blocks, Lego, sticks, corks, cans, magnets, string, sheets, fabrics, pool noodle pieces, Popsicle sticks, recycled items, Styrofoam, cardboard boxes, etc.

If you wish alternate wording or have a structure you would like to add to the set, I would be more than happy to help! In fact, adding more options improves the product for everyone.
