Description

This lesson is the perfect introduction to or review of Jazz concepts for upper elementary, middle school, or even high school students! The lesson contains information on the origins and characteristics of Jazz, as well as a short description of 15 of the most prominent Jazz sub-genres, complete with listening examples.

Sub-genres included are:

The Blues, Ragtime, Dixieland, Swing, Bebop, Cool Jazz, Hard Bop, Modal Jazz, Avant-Garde, Free Jazz, Post Bop, Jazz Fusion, Latin Jazz, Smooth Jazz, and Funk

A study guide and assessment are also provided, in both digital and printer-friendly formats. (Perfect for in-person or distance learning!) Please see the "A Note for Teachers" slide for more information about how to use these two formats.
