This ZIP file includes
* a PowerPoint presentation and a
* suggested teaching sequence
The PowerPoint guides students through the necessary language to perform
1. a self-introduction based on Sumo Statistics - name, age, height, weight and nationality!
OR
2. an interview role-play also based on Sumo Statistics - name, age, height, weight and nationality!
It is ready to be displayed using a data projector and does not require an interactive whiteboard.
Students are shown how to make numbers larger than ten and into the hundreds.
The presentation includes tasks for students to complete in their Japanese workbook, on separate paper or just orally ( depending on teacher choice). Pages with answers are provided.
Alternatively, a separate Student Activity Booklet can be purchased, which has been designed to complement this presentation.
Kanji is used for numbers including 百 and 'years old ~ 才
Mnemonic story pages have illustrations to aid the memorisation of keywords 才、しんちょう、たいじゅう
The original graphics have been hand-drawn and painted by a talented friend in Japan - Mrs Yohko Tange, and I am most appreciative of her fine efforts.
SUMO offers an insight into a fascinating ritualised sport unique to Japan. Teachers may wish to show students video clips and further their understanding with discussion.
