Choose the Kanji from the list of Kanji origins of Hiragana and Katakana!



For Japanese language learners, it is a popular activity to write their names in Kanji characters.

This is an exciting and fun activity for those curious students!

In this unique activity, students write their first names using Kanji.

The Kanji for the names will be picked up from the list of Kanji origins of Hiragana and Katakana.

Goal:

In this activity, students learn:
(1) Hiragana & Katakana were made out of Kanji
(2) The Kanji originated Hiragana & Katakana were chosen for phonetic reasons
(3) The Japanese pronunciation of their names
(4) The meaning of the “Extended mark” 「—」 (a long vowel sound)
(4) Vertical writing
(5) Kanji shapes and get familiar with them
