What educators are saying

We did an around-the-world unit for part of our summer enrichment. The students loved learning about the different cultures and the crafts were a hit!
I teach geography to my students and I love making different foods for each country, but when a lot of people were getting sick because of corona we could not cook. This was a cool way to create food without actually making food!

Description

Learn about food around the world! This is a fun, kid-friendly lesson all about sushi in Japan! Kids even learn that the way we eat sushi in the United States may be all wrong!

JAPAN! Sushi includes the following:

1. Sushi - lesson with images to present as you teach, provided as Adobe files. The lesson covers the following topics:

  • What is Sushi?
  • What is the Traditional Way of Eating Sushi in Japan?

2. Sushi Art Project - craft with 2 grade levels of instruction, one for K - 2 and one for 3 - 6. This is not a difficult craft but there are many steps and there is a lot of rolling. Pictures of each step are clearly provided, and you will need a lot of Scotch tape and white glue. Nonetheless, kids of all ages (even very young ones such as kindergarteners) have had lots of fun with this.

Materials needed to make sushi craft include various colors of construction paper (colors are specified), paper towels (the kind that come in perforated half-sheets), card stock, pony beads in red/orange, a few pipe cleaners, liquid glue, tape (lots of it), and scissors.

TESTIMONIALS ABOUT OUR PRODUCTS

"In my nearly 30-year career in education, I have never seen children so engaged in their learning! International Travel Academy is truly a multi-disciplinary approach that enables children to explore the world in an unforgettable way. Students get a real sense of what it means to respect another country's heritage, beliefs and ways of living, thus making them more tolerant and internationally-minded. I highly recommend this program to educators and parents wishing to make learning come to life!"

– A Former Assistant Superintendent at Atlanta Public Schools

“(The five-day program) has given our school the unique opportunity to provide students with incredible experiences that align so well with our IB focus. Each spring with family and community support, our school essentially is transformed into our country of study for one full week. Teachers are easily able to follow the daily curriculum and activities provided, and the students truly enjoy this special week of instruction. From the art projects to festive food tastings, cultural dress, music, dance and traditions, the students spend this entire week engaged in new and exciting experiences of a new country. I would encourage all schools (IB, or not) to jump in and make a week like this happen for their students. It is incredibly gratifying to spend this week with kids as they come together to learn and share experiences like these across grade levels, school-wide. When we hear such rich discussion in classrooms and read their detailed writing about what they've learned as part of (the) week, it makes all the preparation, planning and expense totally worth it!! “
