Description

Enclosed in this zip file are two parts of a slideshow detailing Japan's modernization journey. I have a page at the beginning of the slideshow with links to the google doc files for any edits or changes you may want to make. The slide show begins with Japan's era of isolation, the presentation illustrates how Japan transitioned from isolation to actively engaging with the global community, ultimately undergoing rapid modernization and industrialization, emerging as a formidable nation in East Asia.

Each presentation includes two PDF pages of blank two-column notes, allowing students to effectively document key points during the presentation.

Day 1 of the slideshow has a bonus features with a collection of artwork depicting Commodore Perry's arrival in Japan, accompanied by art-related questions that encourage collaborative group discussions.

Day 2 of the slideshow has a bonus feature that comprises of 8 slides showcasing primary source propaganda and political cartoons, which can be printed for individual, partner, or group activities.

Additionally, a quiz related to the presentations and several worksheets for comparing and contrasting different events from this period are included. The lesson offers flexibility, allowing educators to tailor activities based on the available class time and student needs.

Enjoy the versatility of this lesson, selecting activities that best suit your classroom objectives and teaching style.
