WHAT IS INCLUDED?
♥ Vocabulary Practice
Learn eight new vocabulary words this month! Picture word cards, a trace the word worksheet, and search the room vocabulary game are included.
January Words: icicles, mittens, hat, snowflake, snowman, hot cocoa, ice skates, New Year
♥ Pocket Chart Sentences
Practice using sight words and vocabulary words in sentences. We put the words in order and practice reading each sentence. Then, we mix the words up and students love to put the words back in order to make the sentence correct. Sixteen sentences are included (two for each word.)
The pattern for these sentences are:
Can you see _________?
Yes, I see ___________.
♥ Digital Book
I read the book to your students! Simply click play in either PowerPoint™ or Google Slides™. This digital book matches the pocket chart sentences perfectly! First, I read the book to students. On the second half of the slides, the audio is removed so students can read the sentences out loud together. Display the digital book on your interactive whiteboard in your classroom, your laptop, or use it to teach virtually.
♥ Mini Books
Now that students have learned the vocabulary words and sight words, they practiced them in pocket chart sentences, listened to the read aloud, and read the sentences together... it is time for their very own mini book! These adorable books match the digital book perfectly, and they come in both color and black and white.
♥ Comprehension, Vocabulary Check and Sight Word Practice
At the end of the mini book, there are three pages for students to check their comprehension, vocabulary and practice the target sight words.
♥ Writing
Students are ready to write the sentences we have been learning. In the early stages of learning how to write, it is very helpful to have sentences modeled first. The unit is designed to provide this exact scaffolding for students. We have worked with the same sentences for multiple lessons, and now students cannot wait to write and color their very own book. Each page in their writing book has blank lines for students to write a sentence.
For support and scaffolding, they can use the pocket chart sentences, the digital book or their own mini reader to help them write each sentence. Someone students will be able to do this on their own. To challenge students, encourage them to write their own sentence with the target vocabulary word. Then, students can read their book to a partner.
