Description

This is a 26 slide fashion unit, and IPA or integrated performance assessment. The init includes 5 worksheet pages for students to practice describing clothing, and accessories, including a written teacher model. The worksheets are set up using a sentence frame structure with the words in English below each line (ex. clothing item, color, sleeve length, pattern, fabric/material, etc.) Above each sentence frame section is a box for students to draw the individual item of clothing being describes. After students describe the seven items per season (clothing and accessories), they "put the entire outfit together" on easel paper, pictures and words are rewritten after providing feedback. There are two vocabulary list of clothing (clothing for all occassions, accessories, clothing patterns, clothing materials, verbs, etc.) one with English and the other without so that students can look up and write in the meanings of the vocabulary independently. A presentational writing clothing project is included, with student completion checklist. A presentational speaking checklist for Italian fashion cultural "look fors" or active listener sheets. There is a pattern sheet with vocabulary and visual reinforcement, a student VennDiagram worksheet, a completed VennDiagram (teacher answer key). Students can research Italian fashion in a textbook or online, and compare and contrast with American fashion. There are 2 pages designed to help students prepare for their clothing descriptions, one contains notes on colors, indefinite articles and the partitive, etc., and the second for verb charts to conjugate the four main verbs they will use (indossare, portare, vestire, calzare). The final page is a resource page with three recommended websites of fashion shows (Fendi). I have students vote on the seasonal clothing line that is most creative and thoughtful using an "Italian lens" and "look fors". Students record their presentation (on Vocaroo, smartphone recorder, or other) as a presentational speaking assessment. The third and last part of the unit is the interpersonal speaking assessment. Students write a shopping dialogue using a color visual prompt (included). A Word version of this project is also for sale, without the student vocabulary sheet, and in a slightly modified format. This PPT document is good for presenting the IPA to your students on the Smartboard.
