What educators are saying

Useful resource--lots of materials.
I was really struggling on how to approach this topic giving everything that is currently going on in this region. This source broke everything down in a very approachable way. The bonus is that it is also updated with the current events. This set was exactly what I needed.

    My Typical Lesson Order:

    1. I like to ask students what they know/have heard about the conflict and either have a class discussion or pose it as a question on Google Classroom.
    2. I have students label a map of Israel/Palestine, including major cities in both Palestine and Israel (Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Haifa; Ramallah, Gaza City, Hebron) so they get an idea of the layout of the land.
    3. TIMELINE ACTIVITY: Give students a chance to try and piece together the history of the conflict on their own using clues.
    4. HISTORY SLIDESHOW: Give an overview of who has owned/lived in the land throughout history.
    5. 2024 Update Slideshow: 21 slides covering events from October 2023 to February 2024.
    6. GAZA STRIP HANDOUT: Review the recent events with students and have a class discussion. This should be done either with the history slideshow or shortly after.
    7. VIDEO GUIDE: This will give students additional context for the upcoming West Bank activity.
    8. COMPETING PERSPECTIVES NEWS NARRATIVES: These articles are about the West Bank.
    9. GAZA STRIP: ANALYZE 4 VIDEOS: This is another perspective/bias activity that asks students to determine which point of view each video is coming from and how credible they believe the source to be.
    10. PARTITIONING ISRAEL SIMULATION: After learning about history and what is happening today, students will create their own partition plans, ideally in groups, to create peace in the Middle East.
    11. ESSAY QUESTIONS: Students will choose one of the 6 essay options to write a short essay about the conflict (you can vary the length of the essay).
    12. *You can use the basic Israel/Palestine conflict lesson notes to guide your learning or your students' learning. It is more of a supplemental material than a lesson.
