In this WebQuest, students will visit a website and answer the accompanying questions. A link to a Google Slides version of this activity is included in the Terms of Use section of this product. Early Finisher Extension Activity

In this reading, students will read two excerpts from Ibn Battuta's travels. The first excerpt is from The Saltworks at the Oasis of Taghaza and the second is Ibn Battuta Meets the King of Mali. Students will answer 7 comprehension questions. A teacher answer key is included. A digital version is also provided in the Terms of Use.

Islamic Architecture Reading Stations

Looking for a way to incorporate art history into your curriculum? This zero-prep, differentiated, fun activity goes over Islamic architecture!

Reading Station Activity - Students will read about:

• Dome of the Rock
• The Kaaba
• Great Mosque of Córdoba
• The Taj Mahal
• Mosque of Selim II
• Great Mosque of Isfahan
• Great Mosque of Djenné

2 differentiated options for students to complete at each station:

1. Option A: Answer guided questions and complete a 7-sentence writing prompt at the end about common themes within Islamic architecture
2. Option B: Chart to fill out at each station and a 10-sentence writing prompt asking students to compare and contrast two pieces of Islamic architecture and then analyze the significance of each in relation to Islamic culture and beliefs

Research Posters

Students will create their own poster on another significant piece of Islamic architecture not included in the reading.

Three options on how to use:

• Early finisher extension activity
• Individually or in groups when the writing section is complete (recommended to share posters with the class)
• Swap the writing section for the research paper

ISLAM ONE-PAGERS

One-pagers are a fun formative assessment to check for knowledge and understanding while embracing creativity. In these one-pagers, students will demonstrate their understanding of the origins and spread of Islam. Since Islam forbids depictions of real-life objects (like humans, animals, plants, etc.) in their religious art, students are encouraged to devise alternative ways to draw images in their one-pagers.
