Description

This is a major inquiry project to run parallel to a unit of work/lessons. It adopts an inquiry based method; that is, students investigate the topics on their own based on their interests.

Project break down in brief:


1) Medieval Newspaper Project activity

Learning Objectives:
- To participate within inquiry learning by conducting an historical investigating
- To research, explore and develop an understanding of Medieval Europe
- To work as a team to produce a final product which shows our understanding of historical concepts.

Success Criteria:
- I will be able to:
o Research historical concepts by using my own questions
o Paraphrase information into my own words prior to drafting my work
o Work as a team to create a project product

Mission: create a Newspaper
Group number: 4 to 5 students per group
Size of the newspaper: A3
Format: Hard copy for final product- all individual tasks together, to be present as one final product.


2) Oral Presentation component task

Learning Outcomes:
- Demonstrate your understanding of Medieval Society
- Investigate how Medieval Society has impacted modern society.

Success Criteria:

- I will be able to:
o Research historical concepts by using my own questions
o Paraphrase information into my own words prior to drafting my work
o Work as a team to create a final product which will assist me with teaching my
peers about the topic of my choice.


Task Outline:
Your challenge is to present one topic to the class. The intention is that you are teaching the audience about your topic.
• Your presentation needs to be imaginative, creative and informative, and gain the audience’s attention. For example: A poster, power point, virtual tour, blog, website, booklet, diary, information handouts, worksheets, brochure, etc.


Rubrics:
This project comes with 3 rubrics:
1) To assess the project quality of the newspaper (team and presentation)
2) Content and knowledge demonstrated during oral presentation and newspaper. This is parallel to the Australian Curriculum assessment criteria. (ausVELS).
3) To assess oral presentation skills during the peer teaching lesson.


This project is provided in word document and can be adapted and changed to suit students’ needs and time availability. For example I have used this before specific lessons run weekly by students created for students.
