Description

A unit has been developed to guide students through the process of making a new invention or altering an existing invention. This is an attempt for students to use and develop their critical thinking skills and apply them in real life situations. Lessons will be taught to demonstrate how the critical thinking process occurs and will be applied to a new invention. Demonstrations of past and present inventors will be presented along with the inventions they created and how they applied the creative and critical thinking process to generate their product that is in everyday use.

Students will be asked to create an invention that facilitates an everyday activity in life. They will need to model a step by step approach to creating an invention, and to be able to display and demonstrate the use of the invention they have created.

Students will participate in presenting their product and will be able to answer: What is your product; how does it work; what is the need for this product, how does it make the world better; and why should someone purchase your product. Students will create a brochure to promote their invention.

Some students will have the option to choose to use computers to present their invention.

This unit has 10 lessons and all worksheets, parent letter and rubric is included. It is all you need to have your own invention convention.
