Setup
Printable:
- Print from PDF. Use “flip on short side” to get correct lineup with front and back.
- It’s recommended to print the instruction sheet for each student along with the pamphlet.
Duration:
2 days to create, 1-2 days to present.
Options: Two ways to use this project!
- Use with social studies curriculum to reinforce cities and their culture. Have students choose any city that the class has studied, past or present. Students can research the city and use this to fill in the different elements of the brochure.
- Use as a creative writing tool. Have students make up a fictional city they would like to visit. Great to use right before summer vacation.
Notes:
I have used this with 5th graders up to 8th graders, but younger students would probably do well with it too. As an ELA teacher, I like to focus on the creative aspects, but Social Studies colleagues have used it as well tied to units on various continents, wars, or other significant points in history.
Students can be quite creative with this project, even when working with actual cities.
