Description

This WebQuest has students watch two videos to learn the basics of dilations. These basics include the fact that a dilation enlarges or shrinks a figure proportionally from the center of dilation based on a scale factor. Students also learn about preimage and image and that a scale factor larger than 1 enlarges a shape, while a scale factor less than 1 makes a shape smaller. The assignment then goes on to show three different examples of dilations on a coordinate plane. Students identify the coordinates of the preimage and the image and state the scale factor used in the dilation. There is a mix of scale factors that are both larger and smaller than 1. Students are then asked to come up with coordinates of an image given the pre-image coordinates and a scale factor. This is intended to be an introduction to dilations and does not touch upon similarity between the preimage and image. This WebQuest also does not ask students to perfrom a dilation on a coordinate plane, only to identify coordinates.

A link to a digital copy of the assignment only has been added after the answer key to allow for teachers to assign to students digitally.
