Description

This 2nd grade Project-Based Learning unit uses lots of real-world math and engineering applications. It involves 3 separate STEM projects but in the structure of PBL. The unit includes detailed daily activities, step-by-step, assessment rubric, and all necessary worksheets. All you will need is the materials. This unit is very engaging and will have all of your students participating, anxious for the next day. Written and taught by an experienced PBL coordinator, it can be applied to a small group of thinkers or to a large class of well-managed students. The unit specifically looks at 2nd grade Math Common Core Standards, but also includes reading and speaking.

Standards

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Measure the length of an object by selecting and using appropriate tools such as rulers, yardsticks, meter sticks, and measuring tapes.
Measure the length of an object twice, using length units of different lengths for the two measurements; describe how the two measurements relate to the size of the unit chosen.
Estimate lengths using units of inches, feet, centimeters, and meters.
Measure to determine how much longer one object is than another, expressing the length difference in terms of a standard length unit.
Generate measurement data by measuring lengths of several objects to the nearest whole unit, or by making repeated measurements of the same object. Show the measurements by making a line plot, where the horizontal scale is marked off in whole-number units.
