Description

An intro Early Civilizations themed bundle with lots of entertaining & unique resources! These guided lessons are FUN for students and the 5-E teaching model is easy for you to use! Build or enrich your curriculum with these materials, which are ideal for intermediate and middle school classes. Each activity includes a Teacher Quick Reference Guide to help you implement them with success in your classroom!

5-E Unit Bundle:

1. ENGAGE: “Where would I Settle?”

  • Minecraft meets Social Studies! Invaders have raided your student’s town and they have been forced off their land. As the leader, your student’s must analyze a map and choose a new location for their village. Will they survive and make a good selection or be invaded yet again?

2. EXPLORE: “Why don’t we live like cavemen?” Lesson

  • Cavemen weren’t real? We didn’t live with dinosaurs? Students have interesting ideas of what we lived like before modern times. Use this lesson to make students think about why the development of civilizations was so important.

3. EXPLAIN: An Introduction to “Civilizations”

  • Two great visuals for your student’s interactive notebooks! This lesson introduces your class to all the ingredients necessary to make a “civilization” and then gives them a chance to play private investigator as they prove a culture could be considered a “civilization”.

4. ELABORATE: Cultural Hearths (4 River Valleys) Lesson

  • Students are hired by various governments to design an advertisement convincing people to move to their early civilizations. Students combine their learning with their creativity and competitive nature.

5. EVALUATE: Looping Activity and Final Assessment

  • Includes a 20 card set for an, “I have…, Who has…” looping review activity and a 30-question unit test (Multiple choice, matching, fill-in-the-blank, and map work)

BONUS: Create a Civilization Summative Project

  • Put your students’ creativity on show with this fun project which could be used as an alternative summative assessment. Two different versions of the project are included so you have options based on time, computer access, student ability, and differentiation needs.
