Interactive Reading Notebook Nonfiction Activities Common Core Aligned

105 Common Core-aligned interactive nonfiction reading notebook foldable activities for secondary students (grades 6-12). These can be used with ANY nonfiction text (passages not included).

Students will practice numerous skills, including: making inferences (inferring); summarizing the text; determining the central ideas; analyzing primary and secondary sources; analyzing the development of ideas; analyzing the relationship between individuals/groups, events, and ideas; interpreting words, connotations, and figurative language; analyzing the structure of the text; analyzing the author's tone and purpose; evaluating sources for reliability and validity; analyzing point-of-view and author's style; integrating and evaluating the content of diverse media formats; delineating the author's claims and arguments and evaluating the the author's reasoning; and comparing multiple texts and the author's approach.

The activities cover ALL of the Common Core Reading Informational standards for grades 6-12 in a scaffolded way, perfect for differentiation. They also cover the language standards and many of the Reading History and Reading Science and Technical areas.

I try to make my activities engaging for secondary students by incorporating things they love. This bundle includes a dart board; purse with lipstick, compact, sunglasses, etc.; old-school 80s mix tape; megaphone; weight-lifting; and even a Tetris inspired activity. NO GLUE REQUIRED: Secondary teachers are pressed for time with our students, so most of my activities are easy to cut and don't even require glue! Besides, glue is messy and takes much longer to use (who wants to write on soggy paper?). Students can use tape or staples for all of them. Of course, if they prefer glue, it can still be used on the activities. See the preview download for images of the activities.
