There are so many benefits to using the interactive notebook at the middle school level. Comprehension and retention are increased, students learn key concepts in multiple ways, and creativity and higher-level thinking are incorporated on a daily basis. The “processing” aspect of the notebook gives students a chance to illustrate their understanding of the concepts. By asking students to process the information that has been taught to them directly, their brains are synthesizing the information. They are using both their visual and linguistic intelligences when processing the information.
