Description
This unit introduces students to three unique peoples of Africa: the Gabbra people of the Chalbi Desert in Kenya, the Masai people of the savannahs of Kenya and Tanzania, and the Mbuti people from the rain forest of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Students will learn how geography and ecosystems both support and influence the lifestyle and culture of people who inhabit three vastly different types of environments. This unit addresses Common Core State Standards in Literacy for History/Social Studies and Science & Technology Subjects, as well as Illinois Learning Standards in English Language Arts, Science, Social Science and Fine Arts. As a culminating activity, my students participated in hands-on activities and a tour at a local zoo.
