Inspired by Jen McVeity's Seven Steps to Writing Success program, this is a quick fire activity - primarily focused on information reports - to help students practice the different ways to create a sizzling start. There's no prep required - just display on your whiteboard or Apple TV and go for gold! The beauty of this session is it can be done as a quick fire 10-15 minute lesson or, if you want to pull it apart with the students, can become a full writing session. Once you have done it once, the options are endless! Present the students with any fun fact and challenge them to write a sizzling start - you'll be amazed how quickly their writing improves.
