Description

Go beyond questions and worksheets; use these informational text stations to guide your students to be independent, critical thinkers as they study nonfiction. The stations are designed to be used with any text and and can be differentiated to suit the needs of your students. Be sure to check the preview for detailed information about the resource.

You will provide your students with a nonfiction text to read and then use the stations as a way for them to recognize and analyze the author's purpose and choices. Students will move in small groups through these informational text stations; it won't matter which order they do so.

In this resource you will find:

  • Stations that focus on: understanding the text, point of view & purpose, organization & coherence, idea development, author's use of language, analyzing the claims, and questions for discussion.

  • Table toppers for each station

  • Task cards that will focus your students on the skills they need to be close readers and analyzers of text. There are options for independent work as well as for group discussion. The task cards are editable so you can adapt them to better suit your purposes.

  • Handouts to guide your students

  • Optional task sheets (they can use their own paper!)

  • Editable rubrics for assessment

  • Links to texts you could use for the stations

  • Sample answers based on two of the linked essays

  • Other options: stations that you can use to have students examine multiple essays and two student essays that students can evaluate using the stations.

There are lots of options you can use to get students to analyze nonfiction texts!
