Description

Celebrate Women's Month with this research-based notes and essay organizer!

1. Set them up for success by providing the notes organizer while they do their research on an influential woman. This page includes a word bank of topics to focus on and 3 separate sections to take notes related to each topic. Those will later turn into their 3 body paragraphs. (Ex: early life, accomplishments, family, challenges, etc.)

2. Once they are ready to draft their essay, give them the essay organizer which breaks down what is needed in each paragraph. A checklist is built-in to the organizer. For example for the introduction it has: hook, background information, and a thesis statement. For each body paragraph it lists topic sentence, facts and details, cited evidence, and concluding sentence.

3. There is a space at the bottom for a peer to write comments to help improve their draft before they type up their final paper.

4. Last, there is a rubric for the students to self-assess and for you to use to grade as well.

These organizers will streamline the writing process and leave less room for error as it breaks down each step and keeps their work organized.

It is important to learn about and celebrate inspirational women across the world. Have students share their work with the class and take time to honor all the amazing women of the past and the present!

An extension activity could involve creating a slideshow or poster to display all the wonderful achievements of women.
