Inferences: Short Stories Set 3

Set 3 of inferencing short stories are here! Practice drawing conclusions when given some, but not all, of the information. Like set 1 and set 2 inferences are broken down into predictions, environmental, and people & emotions inferences (see a short description of each below). Stories are geared towards middle school topics, although they can work for upper elementary through high school aged students. Two copies of each story are included, one with questions and one without, so you may choose to have an educator and student copy. Also included are data collection sheets and suggested scoring rubrics!

-3 categories of inferences:

predictions: making a reasonable guess of something that could happen next

environmental: using details from the surroundings in a story to gain information

people & emotions: using a person’s actions, expressions, or words to guess at

what he or she may be feeling

-2 copies of each story, one with the questions and one without

-data collection sheets

-suggested scoring rubric with examples
