Description
In this self-paced assignment, or whole group presentation, students will explore how communities were first developed by the Indigenous Peoples, many years before Christopher Columbus' exploration. This presentation fosters age-sensitive discussions of topics around Christopher Columbus and his exploration to the Americas.
These lessons can be combined, or separated, based off the content being discussed. "How Communities Are Formed" is great for Social Studies standards regarding the formation and characteristics of communities and culture. "Columbus and the Indigenous Peoples" serves as great practice for cause and effect statements and difference point of view. Allowing students to dig deeper about the overall affects of the actions of Columbus.
