What educators are saying

I actually used this for younger kids (7th grade) but it helped with my organization and it was very useful.
I teach 5th grade and this resources helps me to keep my students on track and keep them accountable when they are reading independently.

    Description

Wanting to create or enhance an independent reading program? Literature circles, intervention lessons, book club, choice reading arrangements? Creating the materials can be overwhelming, but reading choice is crucial to students' growth as readers, perceptions of their abilities, engagement in class, and success in life.

These year-long teaching materials are intended to provide natural and enjoyable layers of accountability to your independent reading program, to motivate students to want to read, to provide the "why" for them, and to encourage them to be active readers even when reading independently. Plus, they will help you stay organized when every student is reading a different book!

These materials helped me to TRANSFORM the way I approached reading in my classroom. I developed them after seeing a need for a better, differentiated reading instruction approach for my students. The game changer, for my students, was not replacing curriculum with this program but using it to enhance instruction where my students needed it most.

In this bundle, you'll find teaching resources to support implementation of your own independent reading program. Be sure to download the bonus file for a unit overview and editable parent letter! Included, you will find:

***Please note that the hyperlinked resources above are also available as separate, individual resources.

I designed these materials to coincide with my student-run book club, but you can use them for any independent or choice reading program. Obviously, every teacher will need to develop supporting materials for book clubs and other choice reading arrangements as the need arises, but this bundle will get you started on the right path. With elements of engagement, parent communication, organization, and accountability, you will be well on your way to a successful book club or other year-long independent reading arrangement!
