Learning Objective

Students will be able to write an example of an idiom and distinguish idioms from other figurative language terms. Students will demonstrate their understanding of idioms by identifying an idiom and explaining why it is an idiom.

Description

Teaching how to identify idioms and incorporate them as literary devices in writing has never been easier! This lesson focuses on comprehension and identification activities of idioms in figurative language. The students will be introduced to how idioms work in writing to add voice, word choice, and structure. From the struggling writer to the advanced writer, this resource offers something for everyone.

The no prep lesson can be used in class or assigned for distance learning as independent student work with Google™ Links provided. The lesson uses step-by-step guided note-taking and can be presented as whole class instruction or assigned for students to complete at home.

This lesson focuses on identifying and using idioms in writing. The students will be introduced to how to correctly use idioms as a literary device to enhance their writing. The lesson includes numerous examples of idioms. These examples are included on the student worksheets to make it easier for students to take notes.
