Description
We hear it often, "When will I ever use this in the real world?" Math Fails allow students the opportunity to analyze real world errors that are made in the community around us.
5 Math Fails included within each topic:
→ Degree Measures
→ Understanding Integers
→ Subtracting Decimals
→ Charts & Graphs
→ Percent Problems
→ Mark Downs/Discounts
→ Unit Rate
→ Proportional Relationships
→ Understanding Fractions
→ Mixed Review
For EACH topic, five math fails are provided with their own response sheet and slide to be projected. A review worksheet is also included to assess the understanding of the concept presented.
Math fails are a great way to encourage student engagement in real world math practices. Sharing common errors that adults have made in math concepts better prepares students to be more responsible consumers in the community. Math fails are also an easy way to connect back to the curriculum you are teaching. And an added bonus, the number of times I have to hear, "When will I ever use this?" has declined in my classroom.
Ways to use Math Fails:
♦ as an introductory lesson to a math concept
♦ as a bell ringer or warm up when students arrive to class
♦ as a weekly task to enrich math conversations
♦ as a practice assignment for real world math concepts
