Description
Identifying Hypotenuse, Adjacent, and Opposite Sides Card Sort and Ratios Activity:
This card sort activity will help you teach your students how to recognize the different sides of a right triangle and how to find sine, cosine, and tangent of right triangles. This activity should be used on the first or second day after students have been introduced to right triangle trigonometry. It is particularly helpful with groups of students who struggle with correctly labeling the sides of right triangles.
This activity comes with 24 color cards and 24 black-and-white cards. The black-and-white cards are perfect if you intend on printing the cards on colored paper or cardstock. Each card has a different right triangle on it. One of the sides of the right triangle is highlighted or dashed, and students must determine whether the indicated side is the hypotenuse, adjacent side, or opposite side.
In the first part of the activity, your students will sort the cards into 3 different groups (hypotenuse, adjacent, or opposite) based on which side is highlighted. In the second part of the activity, your students will the find sine, cosine, or tangent ratio for each of the 24 cards. Two different versions of a student worksheet are included: one of the versions has the triangles drawn on it, and the other version does not.
This activity comes with 24 cards in color and black-and-white. There are 8 cards on each page. The activity also comes with 2 versions of a student worksheet (2 pages each), an answer key, and a PowerPoint file containing pictures of the cards, worksheet, and keys. The images in the PowerPoint are NOT editable. When you purchase this activity, you will receive a pdf containing the cards, student worksheets, and answer keys, and you will receive a PowerPoint file. Before purchasing this product, please review the preview file closely to make sure that the problem types are appropriate for your students.
