Description

This document contains 21 discreet Case Studies to be used along with the two IB Global Politics textbooks (Global Politics Essentials and Course Companion for Global Politics) in order to fully support the course and prepare students for Paper 02 and their HL Extension.

Each Case Study articulates links to the course, in terms of both Key Concepts and relevant "Additional Points." The Case Studies may be assigned as additional student work, or used in class, or both. Several of the Case Studies include "Questions to Consider" which may be assigned to students or used as the basis for class discussion.

For example, the first Case Study on Haiti is meant to be used primarily with Unit 1, but incorporates topics from Units 2 and 3, as well.

The Haiti Case Study addresses, in particular, the following "Additional Points": Cooperation through international frameworks; Soft power examples; Role of media; UN bodies; Specific human rights abuses; Measures of Development; The SDGs; Economic, sociopolitical and environmental perspectives on development; Specific examples where development is contested; Political obstacles to development; Issues of corruption

I have also clearly linked the Haiti case study to all of the following Key Concepts: Power, Sovereignty, Interdependence, Legitimacy, Human Rights, Equality, Development, Globalization, Inequality, Sustainability, Peace
