How to give a speech with TedEd and TedTalks
- PDF
Description
The lesson plan includes:
-Questions for discussion
-A hook into the lesson
-Links to three short YouTube videos for TedEd and TED
-Guided notes for the videos
-An independent work packet to practice writing/giving a speech
In this lesson, students are asked to reflect and share how comfortable they are with giving/writing speeches. They are then introduced to a brief history of why speeches have been used to communicate ideas through a TedEd video. With accompanying guided notes, the students then watch two short videos on what elements make a successful Ted Talk and a TedEd video on why we have filler words like "uh" and "um". Students are then given an independent work packet that guides them through some of the key elements in a speech and asks them to first outline then write a short one page speech. They may then give this speech in class or this may be used as an exercise to have students practice how to write a speech.
