This emergent reader was designed with the Pre-K, Transitional Kindergarten, and Student in mind. This reader will assist you as your students build book handling skills, knowledge, and vocabulary. This very basic reader will go along very well with the traditional storybook and seasonal units that we do with very young students. This readers can be used for guided reading, to support ELD, or as an independent center after students have been introduced and are comfortable with the text. I have used these books for guided reading, familiar reading book boxes, and as take-home books.

Students can benefit from reading sight word emergent readers by tracking one to one, identifying spaces between words, putting together letters and sounds to make words, reading sight words in context, and reading appropriate grade level text. The black and white clip art pictures support meaning and also provides opportunities to color the pictures.
