    Description

In this two-week unit, students will read all or some (your choice!) of the vignettes in Sandra Cisneros' House on Mango Street as mentor texts to inspire their own collection of personal vignettes. Students will read, analyze, and respond to her writing through their own writing.

    This bundle includes:

    • Introductory Activity: Google Slides stations (with notes) to introduce reading House on Mango Street to take 60-90 minutes
    • Culminating Writing Task: An editable Google Doc vignette collection assignment sheet (with rubric)

    • 10-minute Video Presentation: A brief presentation from The Donut's "Following The Story" mini-conference in which I discuss the two-week unit
    • Brainstorming Activity: Google Slides and Google Docs instructions for creating a "Memory Map" to help students brainstorm vignette topics
    • Journaling Topics: Google Slides and Google Docs versions of journal topics for all 44 vignettes from House on Mango Street
    • Paired Texts: Google Slides and Google Docs version of six paired texts analysis questions with instructions for mimicking style. The texts themselves are not included in this product.
    • Elements of Style Chart: Editable Google Doc chart for students to trace elements of figurative language and style from mentor texts that they want to use in their own collection
