What educators are saying

Was a great way for my ESE students that struggle following along with videos to be able to keep up and not get frustrated. Great resource.

Description

This video guide handout contains 10 multiple choice questions for the video: Home for the Holidays: The History of Thanksgiving. The video is an older History Channel documentary. It's great for showing in class because it explains the complete history of the holiday, not just the Pilgrims landing at Plymouth. It goes more in depth to include when the actual day for Thanksgiving was set, changed and rest, when it was declared a national holiday and how it grew as an American tradition.

Please check that you can access the video before you purchase the questions. I make no guarantee that the video is still available for free.

The video is about 45 minutes long and can be found here (as of this posting): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwtOZYldiDA (Please note that this video in Youtube shows that it is 1 hour 3 minutes long, however, only the first 45 minutes is the actual documentary that goes with these questions).

It has been my experience that if students do not have anything to do during a video, they do not pay attention. However, if you have them take notes or answer questions with written answers, they are too distracted. The purpose of a video should be to enhance learned material. I use these questions as a guide to make sure students are paying attention, but in a format that is simple enough that they are able to absorb (and enjoy!) the information in the video. All they have to do is listen for the answer and circle/highlight it. This usually keeps them on their toes!
