When bratty 8-year-old Kevin McCallister acts out the night before a family trip to Paris, his mother, Kate McCallister, makes him sleep in the attic. After the McCallisters mistakenly leave for the airport without Kevin, he awakens to an empty house and assumes his wish to have no family has come true, but his excitement sours when he realizes that two con men named Harry and Marv, who call themselves the Wet Bandits, plan to rob the McCallister residence, and that he alone must protect the family home.

I have read this story with grades 5-12 and with my adult students both online and in-class.

Every class I have read Home Alone with has had a lot of fun portraying Kevin, the bandits, Uncle Frank, Johnny, Snakes, and the McCallister family. It's a fun way to get shy students involved as the bandits so they can practice their screaming when they encounter Kevin's traps. This is one of my favourite stories to read with my students because we are all familiar with the plot and that helps in their portrayal of the characters.

There are also wholesome morals amongst the funny dialogue and traps, as the importance of the family unit and facing our fears are explored in this story.

I hope you class has a lot of fun reading Home Alone. They will look forward to every page.
