Description

5 page mini-lesson describing the history and development of the Olympic Games. It also tells about the Olympic rings, marathons, and the Olympic torch. After 2 pages of informational text, there are 3 pages of reading comprehension questions. 11 questions are multiple choice, the 12th is a short answer in which students list details, and the last one is a bonus essay question in which students write out a short response. Reading skills addressed are: Determining Main Ideas, Making Inferences, Locating Details, Recognizing Causes and Effects, Drawing Conclusions, and Vocabulary. The lesson gives beneficial practice in preparation for standardized testing. 3 drawings are included: A runner carrying Olympic torch, Olympic rings, and Olympic Medal Presentation. The 6th page is the answer key. This can be used for a reading lesson, history lesson, literacy center activity, or a sports lesson in physical education class.
