Description

You could have your students read something dry and boring about the legacy of the Roman Empire and its contributions to our modern world, but why would you when you can do this instead? Your students will love how interactive this lesson is. You'll love how much they learn about the contributions and legacy of Ancient Rome.

You'll get two hands-on activities that bring Ancient Rome to life.

The Roman Empire's influence on art, architecture, government, citizenship, language is as fascinating as it is powerful. Let's make sure your students' experience with it is equally powerful.

Your students will read informational task cards and use those to solve simple jigsaw puzzles. Then, they'll create their own (or use one of the other templates) after doing a little more research.

Included in this Legacy and Contributions of the Roman Empire Resource:

✅ Jigsaw puzzle templates

✅ Teacher instructions and procedures

✅ Informational task cards (color and black/white)

✅ Jigsaw fact sheet (color and black/white)
✅ Templates for student research findings
✅ Rubric

Your upper-elementary, middle school, or junior high social studies students will love these activities!

Let's find out more about the activities!

★ ACTIVITY 1: JIGSAW FACT FIND

In this activity, students will be learning about some of the legacies of Rome. Jigsaw puzzles are provided for students to solve. Once they solve the puzzles, they will find and read the matching task card that has the image and some information on how a Roman development is still used today. Each student will have a Fact Sheet to summarize what they learn from each task card.

ACTIVITY 2: CONTINUE THE LEGACY OF ANCIENT ROME

With the foundation given in Activity 1, students will be conducting a small research study to further learn and discuss Roman legacy. They may choose to elaborate on one of the topics from Activity 1 or from another paragraph in the provided research articles.

Low-Prep Includes:
✂️Copies
✂️Cut apart puzzle pieces and put in baggies

✂️Optional: internet access

Tip: I ask a Kindergarten teacher if her students will cut out the pieces for extra cutting practice. The Kinder students *love* that they're helping the "big kids."

You'll get teacher instructions, classroom procedures, printable activities, and a rubric. The teacher directions are so detailed! You will have very clear, step-by-step instructions for what to do to teach the activity.
