Description

GREAT RESOURCE TO SUPPLEMENT INSTRUCTION or to ADD TO YOUR SUBSTITUTE LESSON PLANS for The Medieval World and Beyond History from the TCI Curriculum.

I created these google documents for teachers using the TCI History Alive- The Medieval World and Beyond textbook/curriculum, published in 2011. The Google Documents are reading comprehension activities AND Graphic organizers of key vocabulary terms for students to complete while they read each chapter and or lesson. Lastly, just added to the 7th grade TCI content, a word search for each chapter for students to enjoy!

ALL 6 chapters in Unit 1 are included in this resource.

*Answer Keys for the reading comprehension, vocabulary terms, and word searches for each chapter in Unit 1 will be included as well.

Below is what is included in this resource:

1) Unit 1,  Chapter 1- The Legacy of the Roman Empire (13 reading comprehension questions) and vocabulary terms (10 Vocabulary terms) and a word search (15 chapter specific terms).

2) Unit 1,  Chapter 2- The Development of Feudalism in Western Europe (14 reading comprehension questions) and vocabulary terms (6 Vocabulary terms) and a word search (15 chapter specific terms).

3) Unit 1,  Chapter 3- The Roman Catholic Church in Medieval Europe (16 reading comprehension questions) and vocabulary terms (8 Vocabulary terms) and a word search (15 chapter specific terms).

4) Unit 1,  Chapter 4- Live in Medieval Towns (15 reading comprehension questions) and vocabulary terms (4 Vocabulary terms) and a word search (15 chapter specific terms).

5) Unit 1,  Chapter 5- The Decline of Feudalism (13 reading comprehension questions) and vocabulary terms (6 Vocabulary terms) and a word search (15 chapter specific terms).

6) Unit 1,  Chapter 6- The Byzantine Empire (14 reading comprehension questions) and vocabulary terms (4 Vocabulary terms) and a word search (15 chapter specific terms).

Each google document is broken down by the lesson, with each lesson having a minimum of 10 questions for students to answer. Each lesson has the following types of questions: Multiple Choice, Fill in the Blank and True or False.

Also, each section of a lesson is clearly titled as it is in the textbook the students are reading. For example, in chapter one of unit 1, The Legacy of the Roman Empire, the first section students read is titled, Introduction, so the Google Document's first section is also titled, Introduction. Not only is each section of the lesson clearly labeled in the google doc, each question is also labeled with the page # students can find the answer to further guide them in finding the answers for themselves.

Also, each lesson has a vocabulary graphic organizer for the vocabulary given for each lesson. While doing the graphic organizer, students must write the definition of each key term and write the sentence the key term is in in the text. The last section of the graphic organizer is the page number students can find the term on, given already to help all learners find the correct page the term is on.

Lastly, just added to the 7th grade TCI content, each chapter will have a word search that has chapter specific terms for students to enjoy!

I created these google documents for TWO primary reasons:

1) As a supplemental resource for my students and for other teachers to use to further their students' mastery of the content for each unit.

2) As a part of my Substitute Lesson Plan, where minimal lesson planning is needed for a substitute teacher to implement an effective lesson. Students only need the necessary reading and this google doc to guide their learning. It's really easy for students and a substitute to follow.

I hope these reading comprehension questions, vocabulary graphic organizers & Word Searches  support your students' learning of the medieval world and beyond!!
