What educators are saying
Description
With this Project Based Learning (PBL) product, students will create a mini-podcast about a historical topic of their choosing. This works with any historical topic or time period, and really works with many students at the secondary level.
With this podcast project, students brainstorm, write, and produce a dramatic reimagining of a historical time period. They can add in sound effects and background music to make their podcast come alive! They will also be encouraged to add in sensory details to make listeners "see" the history.
As an exemplar, students listen to an introduction from the podcast "Tides of History." This podcast has a wide range of topics from World History, and provides a great example for the students to model.
As a final product, students will write their own transcript, and produce a 3:00 minute podcast about a historical topic of their own choosing. As the teacher, you can provide a list of topics for them to choose from, or you can allow them to develop their own topic within a Unit of study.
This project is linked with the Common Core Standards and you can also add in your own more specific Historical standards if required.
I linked this product with many grade levels because it really is very adaptable. Younger students will need more structure, and older students will need less. The project outcomes will be different also. However, it is really possible for many different grades. I teach both middle school and AP, and I would utilize the project in both.
NOTE: To record their podcasts, students will need to have access to the free Anchor App. Student can download the app on their phones. The app is also available through IPads. Students can also log on through desktops or Chromebook computers to edit the podcasts also. Please check to make sure that students can access the app before purchasing this product. <--- (EDITED to note that I wasn't kidding. Students have to record on the app.)
