Description
YOU CAN BRING HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH TO LIFE
You will teach your students about the struggles these trailblazers endured and how they overcame barriers. Juana Briones, Fabiola Cabeza de Baca, Pura Belpre, Tito Puente, Barju Benacerraf, Cesar Chavez, Jose Marti, and Roberto Clemente.
This resource will enable you to teach your students History in a unique engaging way. You will have active class participation by all your students, even your reluctant students.
The scripts are ready for you to print and hand out to your students. Break you class into groups, and either you can assign reading parts or your students can choose their own. Have each group perform for the rest of the class, other classes, or even parents. You can make this a one day activity or have your students work on it over a week or more.
Why Should You Use Reader’s Theater?
· Reader’s Theater promotes reading fluency.
· It increases comprehension.
· It helps readers learn to read aloud with expression.
· It builds reading confidence.
· Reader’s Theater brings a story to life.
· It’s super motivating and makes learning FUN!
Your students will place their scripts in a sturdy three-ring binder and highlight their speaking parts. The wide left margin on student script pages allow for three-hole punching and written notations. Each script includes a binder cover page.
Your stage can be anywhere—it can be at the front of your classroom or any open space. Allow students to rehearse together in small groups as you float around the room supervising.
Although students don’t memorize the script, they should know their part well enough to look up from their binders often, about half the time.
Encourage your students take ownership of the performance and then let the magic begin!
