Description

Use this easy to teach art art activity for Hispanic Heritage Month, or any time of the year! Designed with first grade standards, but can be used for second grade or third grade too, and Kindergarten later in the year. The 6 minute video shows three types of stringed instruments in the guitar family and talks about Mariachi music, a part of Mexican heritage and continues on with all the instructions to complete the art project. So easy to teach!

You will need construction paper, crayons or oil pastels, scissors and glue along with some bumpy things to make some rubbings, like a bumpy wall or bulletin board or even a placemat or netting from a potato or orange sack.

Plan and conduct investigations to provide evidence that vibrating materials can make sound and that sound can make materials vibrate. Examples of vibrating materials that make sound could include tuning forks and plucking a stretched string. Examples of how sound can make matter vibrate could include holding a piece of paper near a speaker making sound and holding an object near a vibrating tuning fork.
