Description

SLPs & teachers, do your younger elementary students struggle with comprehending even the directions of high stakes standardized tests (such as the PARCC or MAP tests)? This is the product for you!

This is designed to target vocabulary commonly found in the directions of high stakes tests that students must know in order to answer the questions on said tests.

Thirty-two high-frequency words have been chosen as the focus of this product, including terms such as:

• total • estimate

• narrator • character

• conclusion • dialogue

• narrative • measure

• order • identify

• describe • recognize

• context • explain

This product is designed for younger grades (approximately first through third or fourth grade students), and can be used in a speech-language therapy room, RtI group, Title I setting, special education classroom, or regular education classroom.

NEW: GOOGLE SLIDES VERSION OF TERM CARDS AND WORKSHEETS ADDED JULY 2021! RE-DOWNLOAD FOR LINK.

This product is divided into four sections, which are color-coded. It is recommended to use the sections in order, as they start with more basic, concrete terms, and progress to higher level, more abstract terms. Start with the yellow terms (concrete math vocabulary terms such as whole, part, and estimate), then move to the green terms (concrete story element terms such as narrator, setting, and plot), then to the aqua terms (more abstract math vocabulary terms such as sort, order, and join), and finish with the dark blue terms (abstract cross-curricular terms such as identify, compare, and summary).

It is suggested to focus on one term per week – introduce the word with the vocabulary cards (available in two sizes for your convenience – either two per page or four per page), read the definition and example sentence together as a group, then have your students fill out the worksheet for that week’s term. After all the terms in a color-coded section have been introduced, you may complete the associated activities. If possible, designate a place in your classroom to display words from previous weeks.
