Description

Use these three Pun-tastic joke pages to engage students in the decoding of Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphics.

Pages each consist of a full Hieroglyphic alphabet guide, the lead of a joke written in English, and then the punchline written in well spaced, easy to read Egyptian Hieroglyphics. Above each Hieroglyphic character involved in the punchline is a line for writing the English character represented.

These sheets are great if students need a filler activity/extra credit sheet to complete after a test, or even just as a simple introduction to an Ancient History Unit.

Note- the Egyptians did not differentiate between many sounds that English speakers do, such as the hard 'c' and 'k' sounds, and the 'v' and 'w' sounds. This is displayed in the alphabet I provided, and can serve as an interesting cultural talking point.
